Olympia London joins WWF Earth Hour for 8th year running
It will be lights out for Olympia London on Saturday March 19 as, for the eighth time, the iconic venue will join other London landmarks—including Harrods, Big Ben and Houses of Parliament, and The Gherkin—for WWF’s Earth Hour.
In partnership with Ideal Home Show, who will be in tenancy at the time, approximately 10,000 lights across the venue will be switched off between 8:30 and 9:30pm—plunging Olympia London into darkness.
Business Services & Sustainability Manager at Olympia London, Siân Richards said, “Each year Earth Hour focuses the world’s attention on our planet, and the need to care for it for future generations. We work incredibly hard at Olympia London to drive both our business and the events industry towards a sustainable future, so there is a real synergy between our sustainability strategy and the objectives of Earth Hour. We are delighted to be taking part once again”
As a Grade II listed building first opened in 1886, Olympia London has always strived to overcome any unique challenges they have faced in regards to sustainability quickly and effectively. The team actively contribute to the development of industry best practice, as one of the initial members of the Committee for the Development of the International Standard for Sustainable Event Management and ISO 20121—and the first venue to be certified to this standard.
Olympia London’s sustainable efforts have been recognised, most recently, by the Exhibition News Awards, where the venue has been shortlisted as a contender for the Eco Award—with results to be announced on April 28th.
