Olympia London raises thousands for Uganda charity

31 Mar 2015

Olympia London has raised over £4,000 through its annual charity quiz bash for Events for Namuwongo, a unique charity set up by the events industry and focused on improving the lives and living conditions of a community in Uganda.

Funds were donated in an official handover in the form of a gigantic cheque presented to Events for Namuwongo charity Steering Committee and Main Board Member, Trevor Foley of tfconnect.

Mr Foley said: "The amount of money achieves so much, whether it's services we're providing or things we're building - it goes a long way.”
“Over the years we’ve changed a very desperate slum into an acceptable place to live and it’s with the money raised through events like the Olympia quiz night,” he said.

The grand total of £4,333 raised from the quiz, which is held every year for staff, represents the generous contributions of the venue’s service partners and organisers who sponsored the quiz. Funds were also raised from a raffle with a range of high quality prizes donated by each quiz team and by local businesses in Hammersmith and Kensington.

Siân Richards, Customer Services Manager at Olympia London, who organised the quiz night, said: “We’re really pleased with the amount raised which was thanks to the generosity of everyone involved – the staff who got into the spirit, buying raffle tickets and having fun, our sponsors and the local businesses who generously donated some fantastic prizes. Olympia engages staff throughout the year with projects that support local charities, so it’s wonderful to be lending support to another small community in a very different and disadvantaged part of the world.”

Events for Namuwongo is a unique charity established in 2011 by members of the event industry to improve the lives and living conditions of the slum community of Namuwongo, Uganda, through sustained fundraising and support.
