Olympia London welcomes Event Management students for Student Placement Day

22 Mar 2016

Olympia London has once again opened its doors to Event Management students for the venue’s annual Student Placement Day.

Thirteen students from Sheffield Hallam University attended on Thursday 10th March to experience a day in the life of an events professional, whilst also interviewing for the 2016/17 Conference & Events Administrator placement position with Olympia London.

For more than 15 years Olympia London has hired students in this role and, since its inception, the dedicated Student Placement Day has provided attendees with the opportunity to put their theoretical learning into practical application.

Just like any ordinary job, students are expected to apply for the position with a CV and cover letter. From here, the shortlisted applicants are invited to take part in a day of true-to-life tasks across many areas, including customer service, finance management, event planning and task prioritisation, followed by a formal interview.

Head of Conferences at Olympia London, Sarah Elton-Wall said, “Olympia London has always maintained a commitment to nurturing the next generation of our industry and this programme remains as important to us today as it was when it first started.”

“Each year we have this fantastic opportunity to bring a young, passionate student into our team and we love nothing more than watching them develop and thrive—more often than not, we learn just as much from them as they do from us.”

The successful applicant will be offered a 12 month placement position within the Conference Team at Olympia London. Here they will learn all of the necessary systems and procedures to be a successful events professional, as well as building interpersonal skills that will undoubtedly give them an added advantage when starting to build their careers.

Olympia London’s current Conference & Events Administrator, Jasmin Myton said, “I’ll be finishing up my year with Olympia London in July and going back to Sheffield Hallam to complete my final year. As sad as I am to leave the team here, I know that the experience has been invaluable. When the time comes, I’ll be entering the workforce as a dynamic and capable employee thanks to my time with Olympia London.”

Previous completers of the programme include:

• Penny Law, Head of Operations at EventShaper
• Lucy Brackpool, Conference and Event Coordinator at Olympia London and the winner of the 2015 Emprise Young Persons of the Year Award
• Fay Goodwin, Event Manager at Olympia London
