Top Guild Chefs Set to Enlighten at Speciality & Fine Food Food

12 Jul 2013

Four leading lights from the UK’s top chef’s association are gearing up to inspire fine food professionals with dynamic live cooking demonstrations at Speciality & Fine Food Fair 2013, which takes place from 8-10 September at Olympia London.

Christopher Basten, national chairman of the Craft Guild of Chefs, and guild master craftsmen Rob Kennedy, Ben Bartlett and Brian Mellor will each be exploring not-your-average areas of cooking in the  Fair’s Fine Food Forum in September.

The four Chefs will take to the floor of the Fine Food Forum on Tuesday 10th of September, the last day of the trade event.

Hosted by the Craft Guild of Chefs’ chief executive officer, Martin Bates, the association’s day of demonstrations will start with a look at simple food and flavours that are fit for a queen with Rob Kennedy, Executive Chef at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, who regularly cooks for the Royal family, dignitaries and world leaders.

Master chef of Great Britain Brian Mellor, who runs Harthill Cookery School in Cheshire and founded North West Young Chef of the Year, will take the baton after lunch and will be looking at game as a growing-in-popularity, healthier option to other meats.

Celebrity chef Ben Bartlett, dubbed BBQ Ben after winning the first Britain’s Best BBQ’er competition at the British Barbecue Championships in 2003, will then demonstrate why he is such a legend in the grill fresco stakes with a fiery BBQ fish masterclass, demonstrating new smoking methods and exploring under-utilised, sustainable British fish.

Rounding up the demonstrations will be Christopher Basten, who gained coveted Michelin star experience through apprenticeships with celebrated chefs John Burton-Race and Raymond Blanc and is now a chef lecturer at Westminster Kingsway College.

His contribution to the Fine Food Forum will be a masterclass in rustling up hassle-free but high impact garnishes, from tuiles to crisps, for dinner parties without breaking into a sweat.

The running order will be:

The Royal Plate with Rob Kennedy                   11.00-11.45am
Game On with Brian Mellor                                 13.30-2.15pm
BBQ Fish Masterclass with Ben Bartlett           14.45-15.30pm
Garnish to Impress with Christopher Basten  16.00-16.45pm

The definitive event for showcasing artisan food and drink to high quality trade buyers Speciality & Fine Food Fair is the chance for delis, farm shops, independent retailers, restaurants, hotels, caterers & wholesalers to source fine food.
