A brand new medical event and addition to the Clarion Events portfolio, Austere Medical Environments (AME), was held at Olympia London this week. The new event, focused on the delivery of care in challenging and remote environments, ran from 7 to 8 October, bringing together the Trauma Innovation conference and the Institute of Remote Health Care’s (IRHC) annual conference. Olympia Conference Centre’s flexible layout ensured the two-streamed event was a success.
Trauma Innovation is Europe’s largest gathering of military, humanitarian and emergency medical healthcare professionals whilst the IRHC conference delivers educational sessions, focused on remote healthcare. AME was launched to acknowledge the important lessons learnt and best practices to be shared between emergency medical health care delivered on the battlefield and that administered in remote locations including oil, gas and search & rescue environments. As Europe’s leading event for healthcare professionals working in austere medical environments, it aims to deliver world-class education to 600 leading practitioners in the remote, military and civilian fields, as well as industry experts in pre-hospital care. The sector consists of more than 100,000 jobs in the UK.
Top speakers included Surgeon Captain M J Midwinter from the Royal Navy and Dr. Anne Weaver, Consultant in Emergency Medicine and Pre-Hospital Care at the Royal London & London's Air Ambulance.
Clarion Events needed a flexible space that could accommodate multiple breakout sessions alongside the main education programme; a requirement that Olympia London could meet. Four simultaneous round table style discussions were hosted in four seminar rooms alongside streamed lectures in the Auditorium and Conference Room One, accommodating 449 and 150 delegates respectively. A dynamic atmosphere for social learning was also created in the reception area where military presented case studies on the hardest trauma scenarios encountered while a live demo featuring the latest medical simulators brought extreme scenarios to life. Exhibitors from each healthcare discipline from all over Europe presented their services in the same space.

Having done business with the team for many years, with a high proportion of our consumer portfolio taking place in their larger venues, it was a delight to host this new conference at Olympia London and see first-hand how their adaptable space can be utilised,” he continued.
Olympia's conference centre also welcomes another major medical event this year. The Future of Health, the official event for NHS England and UCL Partners, takes place in November and is designed to help influence policy and facilitate quality improvement and innovation in the healthcare sector.
