CrossFit and fundraising will come to Olympia London with Battle Cancer: the world’s only 100% non-profit functional fitness event, raising money to support charities across the UK.
Already sold out, the competition will see CrossFit athletes and enthusiasts battle to fundraise on Saturday 20th October.
A genuine and successful story; Battle Cancer was born as a result of personal experiences, a love for fitness and desire to help others. Powelifter Scott Britton and CrossFit enthusiast Peter Williams have personally been affected by the disease: “As a kid I took part in more funerals than weddings, while growing up” says Scott, who witnessed many relatives or family friends losing their battle with cancer.
In 2016, Scott had the idea of breaking a Guinness world record for the heaviest weight deadlifted, for charity.
The goal became to deadlift the ‘Titanic’ and, with gym buddies joining in, it soon went viral. They managed to enter the Guinness World Records and raised a total of £30,000 which was donated in full to cancer charities in the UK.
In September 2016, the idea was turned into functional fitness and a small CrossFit competition. Inspired by people’s encouragement and interest, Scott decided to make it bigger. The result was Battle Cancer in Manchester, where 1200 people attended the event, raising £64,000 for charity in 2017.
This year Battle Cancer will bring fundraising and fitness to one of the UK’s biggest venues: Olympia London. The event will see CrossFit games athletes, YouTube stars and Olympic athletes take part alongside gym goers and cancer survivors. Battle Cancer London will also see the UK’s cancer charities in attendance to provide support to anyone at the event and share the amazing work they deliver.
Scott concludes: “London is one of the world’s most recognisable cities and where else than Olympia London could such an event take place? We have 800 athletes and hope to bring 2000 people both to fundraise and fight cancer. There are multiple ways you can support this cause, even if you are not interested in competing. Visit our website www.battle-cancer.co.uk to find out how to donate or become a volunteer, spectate or simply donate. Join us on the day and rub shoulders with Olympic athletes, CrossFit games athletes and fitness YouTube stars and help us kick cancer into the dust”.
