The coveted certification rewards eco-friendly businesses around the world.
Promoting sustainable tourism, Green Tourism’s awards programme recognises businesses’ commitment to green practices. Acknowledged worldwide, it is a mark of high standards and a seal of quality that attracts green-minded partners and visitors. Its ‘Bronze’, ‘Silver’ and ‘Gold’ badges are highly noted by discerning visitors throughout the country.
Having previously been awarded Silver Green Tourism in 2018-2019, Olympia London continued its focus on sustainability in 2019 and has now received the highest recognition with the Gold Green Tourism award.
This is one of the highest independent recognitions for the venue’s continuous commitment to sustainability achieved in partnership with event organisers, staff and local community in a variety of projects including food waste and single-use plastic reduction.
Olympia London is proud to have sent zero waste to landfill for a decade by recycling more than 98% and converting the remainder into Refuse Derived Fuel (RDF). In 2019, the venue joined forces with charity WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) via its national campaign Guardians of Grub, engaging organisers, staff and catering partners to reduce food waste. After three months of efforts, Olympia London reduced food waste by 17%.
This success has been driven by Olympia London’s sustainability strategy ‘The Grand Plan’. A staff-led, grass-roots initiative committed to sustainability by advocating green practices, connecting communities and empowering staff, service partners and event industry peers.
