WINTER AT OLYMPIA
Liang-Jung Chen’s “Cascade”
Cascade, by Liang-Jung Chen is a site-specific installation specially commissioned by Olympia as part of the winter programme at the Off The Shelf pavilion from 14 November 2024 until 13 January 2025.
To close out the current year and welcome in the new, Chen has created a series of sculptural interventions that hold, reflect and connect to the core elements that make up the space; stone, wood, light, wind and rain.
A series of water-filled vessels are installed in stacked formations around the pavilion structure, some will fill and flow with rainwater, whilst others ripple, catching the wind and light. The work references various techniques used in both Feng Shui and Zen Garden dry stone waterfalls, that suggest motion and flow in various forms.
The installation will be closed from 22 December 2024 to 5 January 2025.
On The Shelf Winter Residency: Festive Workshop with Lauren MacDonald

Participants will learn about and apply "Swedish flour paints", all made from natural ingredients. In this hands-on exercise, you will not only learn how to make the paints, but also create their own wooden festive decoration for your home, or to give as a gift.
