Olympia Events has just released its annual Grand Plan report showing strategic ESG activity and results during 2023.

The Grand Plan, Olympia Events’ ESG strategy, is driven by 20 sustainability ambassadors from across the company and its service partners. It focuses on three key areas to drive towards its goals: Community, Environment and Collaboration.

The venue, which has three separate event spaces over 25,000m² of floor space, reduced water consumption by 38.2% in 2023 compared with the 2022 figures. Procurement of 100% REGO-backed renewable electricity was reinstated and consumption was reduced by 5.3%, with gas consumption reducing by 2.1%.

“There is a long way to go for us to reach our goal of Net Zero 2050. However in 2023 we’ve taken some really significant strides in understanding the source of our carbon emissions, reducing them and planning how to them.” Anna Golden, Commerical Director, Olympia Events.

In 2023, the venue also released a comprehensive roadmap to net zero, revealing that 72% of its of its footprint originates from Scope 3 emissions, which include those from its supply chain. To tackle this challenge, Olympia Events surveyed its top 20 carbon-emitting suppliers and initiated supplier workshops. Furthermore, the venue has developed a bespoke tool to track and manage suppliers' Scope 1 and 2 emissions.

Several significant contributions were made to the community in 2023. Through its charitable trust, the venue contributed over £30,000 to local schools, supporting education and enrichment programs for students. Furthermore, Olympia Events staff volunteered 112 hours on various community projects throughout the year and numerous donations were made to local colleges and charities.

Commenting on these achievements, Siân Richards, Head of Sustainability at Olympia Events, said: "We are very proud of the positive impact we had on our local community in 2023, alongside our environmental progress as part of our Grand Plan. Giving back to the community and progressing our net zero programme demonstrate our dedication to creating a more sustainable future. We remain committed to leading by example and inspiring positive change in the events industry and beyond."
